Communtiy Work
Jade has had a vast amount of experience working with people of varying ages and abilities. She worked for three years as a part time youth worker for Somerset County Council, at the same time as assisting with the running of holiday play activities for 5- 11 year olds with South Somerset District Council, during this time she also worked in a basic skills, horticulture and animal care residential college run by Mencap for young people with learning disabilities. She later worked as a part time assistant activites co-ordinator in a nursing home. During this time she spent the rest of her working week as a community artist working with various groups and organisations running art projects such as mural painting, craft and dance workshops, as well as working for Somerset County Council as relief staff for adults with learning disabilities in supported housing and in the local day centre.
Before traveling to India she took a post with South Somerset Mind (afilitated to national MIND) working as a support worker and volunteer co-ordinator. Whilst in this post she introduced the idea of centre based activities to South Somerset Mind and ran a weekly art group and assisted a volunteer in running a bi-weekly Awareness of Alternative therapies group. The art group included many activities but ultimately through user request became a painting group which culminated in an art exhibition which included a painting from each participant. The activites continued and increased in her absence. Most recently, after returning from India, Jade was re-employed by South Somerset Mind to set up and run a group for young people vulnerable to or experiencing ill mental health. This group included art and craft activities, food awareness, self esteem increasing activities and good old fashioned fun.
Also each summer for the past five years Jade has run the children's area for Rainbow 2000 Camps, Music Camp and occasionally for other camps associated with Rainbow 2000.
