"A picture, to me, can be so complex, it can be ambiguous or clear, informative, emotional or questioning, this is why I love a picture in any medium. This is also the reason I took a photography module at university and thoroughly enjoyed taking images and placing them with my poetry to see how it either enhanced or adjusted the meaning of either. Also in my third year of university I began painting with a group of my fellow students, we would find a huge canvas and paint on it together. The only rule agreed amongst us was that once you had painted something upon the canvas it no longer belonged to you. There was no possession over what you had painted for yourself, others could paint into it to include it in the work. This was an interesting process, as it created intriguing dynamics with characters and created fascinating paintings that evolved all by themselves. Later I went on to painting by myself and later still reached into the medium of mural painting with another artist, ultimately we began painting murals with groups. For example working with a youth group to paint a room in their club or being asked by the local council to paint the subways in our town and encourage and support passers by and members of other groups we worked with to become involved. After some time my fellow painter died and I sadly damaged my shoulder and was no longer able to paint without pain. So it has been a great joy to me to discover Photoshop. I do not think of the image I want to produce before I create it, so in a way I have gone back to working with another party, only this time it is images created by others and made available to use and working with the 'ghost in the machine' which to me is the complex layering of images with different effects with in the programme.
